To whom it may concern,
I am writing to express my interest in the Jazz Piano Adjunct Faculty position at the University of Southern Maine. My name is Chris Humphrey and I am a highly skilled jazz pianist, vocalist, educator, arranger, and composer. I believe that my skills and experience make me an excellent candidate for this role and I am eager to contribute to the success of the music department at your esteemed institution.
First and foremost, I would like to thank you for considering me for this position. I have always admired the University of Southern Maine for its commitment to providing a well-rounded education to its students and for its vibrant and diverse community. As a musician, I have had the opportunity to perform at various events and venues in Maine, including the university's own Gorham campus. The warm and welcoming atmosphere of the campus, along with the enthusiasm and passion of the students, has left a lasting impression on me.
I am particularly drawn to this position because it aligns perfectly with my skills and interests. Having studied jazz piano and vocal performance at the prestigious Berklee College of Music, I have a strong foundation in jazz theory, harmony, and improvisation. I have also had the privilege of performing with renowned jazz musicians and have gained valuable experience in live performances, recording sessions, and collaborations. These experiences have not only enhanced my musical abilities but have also taught me the importance of adaptability, teamwork, and communication - all of which are essential for an adjunct faculty role.
As an educator, I am passionate about sharing my knowledge and love for jazz music with others. I have been teaching private piano and vocal lessons for over 8 years and have also conducted workshops and masterclasses for students of all ages. I firmly believe that music education should not only focus on technical proficiency but also on developing creativity, expression, and critical thinking skills. I am confident that my teaching style and approach will resonate with the students at the University of Southern Maine and help them grow as musicians and individuals.
In addition to teaching, I am also an accomplished arranger and composer. I have written and arranged music for various ensembles, including big bands, jazz combos, and vocal groups. I am always looking for new ways to combine traditional jazz elements with modern influences, and I believe that my compositions would add a unique flavor to the university's music program. I am also well-versed in using music technology and would be thrilled to incorporate it into my teaching to enhance the learning experience for students.
As for my location preference, I must admit that Gorham, Maine is my top choice. Having grown up in a small town, I am drawn to the close-knit community and peaceful surroundings that Gorham offers. I have also performed at several jazz festivals in Gorham and have always been impressed by the town's support for the arts. However, I am open to considering other locations within Maine if deemed necessary.
In closing, I would like to reiterate my enthusiasm for the Jazz Piano Adjunct Faculty position at the University of Southern Maine. I am confident that my skills and experience make me a strong candidate for this role and I am eager to contribute to the university's music program in any way I can. I appreciate the time and effort you have taken to review my application and I look forward to the opportunity to discuss my qualifications further.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Chris Humphrey
