Dear Jeantyl Norze,
I am extremely excited to apply for the Program Associate position at the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture, with a focus on Evaluation and Professional Development. As an Associate Professor in Organizational Accountability and Evaluation, I have developed a passion for conducting thorough and meaningful program evaluations. From the job description and requirements, it is clear that this position aligns perfectly with my skills, experience, and interests.
First and foremost, I would like to express my admiration for the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture, and its commitment to excellence in education, research, and extension services. I have always been impressed by the university’s reputation for fostering a diverse and inclusive community, while also promoting innovation and growth. It would be an honor to be a part of such a prestigious institution and contribute to its mission of serving the community through high-quality programs and research.
What I find most appealing about this particular position is the opportunity to work on a diverse range of programs and projects in the education and extension settings. As someone who is passionate about both research and evaluation, I am eager to utilize my skills and knowledge to support the success of these programs. Moreover, the emphasis on cultural competence and interdisciplinary teamwork is a perfect fit for my values and experiences. I strongly believe that effective program evaluation requires collaboration and understanding of diverse perspectives, and I am confident that I can bring this to the team.
Speaking of my skills, I would like to highlight a few that I believe make me a strong candidate for this role. Firstly, my extensive knowledge and familiarity with frameworks for program evaluation, especially in education and extension settings, have allowed me to conduct thorough and effective evaluations in the past. I am also well-versed in the American Evaluation Association’s Guiding Principles for Evaluators and always ensure that my evaluations are conducted ethically and with the highest standards.
In addition, my ability to train others in the methods of program evaluation, from design to reporting, has been a valuable asset in my previous roles. I am passionate about sharing my knowledge with others and empowering them to become effective evaluators. Furthermore, my commitment to continuous learning and improvement has enabled me to identify and address any limitations in my expertise, ensuring that my evaluations are always of the highest quality.
I am also excited about the opportunity to work with a broad range of evaluation stakeholders and encourage their meaningful participation. In my experience, involving stakeholders in the evaluation process not only improves the validity and reliability of the findings but also increases their ownership and buy-in. This, in turn, leads to a higher likelihood of the evaluation findings being used for decision-making and program improvement.
As far as technical skills are concerned, I have a strong understanding of the distinctions between evaluation and research and can effectively communicate these differences to others. I am also skilled in developing and articulating program goals and objectives, which is crucial in creating a structure that supports evaluation. Additionally, I have experience with various evaluation designs, including non-experimental, experimental, and quasi-experimental, and have used mixed-method approaches in my evaluations.
Moreover, I am well-versed in the development of evaluation plans and strategies to ensure that the findings are utilized by primary stakeholders. I have also successfully developed and tested data collection instruments and have experience in identifying and utilizing existing data sources for program evaluation. Furthermore, I am proficient in gathering data using both qualitative and quantitative methods and have strong data management skills, including database management, data entry, and data cleaning.
In terms of location preference, I am excited about the opportunity to work at the University of Arkansas. Having been born and raised in Arkansas, I have always felt a strong connection to the state and its people.
