Dear Dr. Evers,
I am writing to express my interest in the PhD student position at University College Dublin in the School of Veterinary Medicine. My name is Melike Cansel EREN and I am thrilled at the opportunity to apply my skills and further my education in such a prestigious institution.
As I read through the job description, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and inspiration. The University College Dublin is known for its cutting-edge research and impressive academic programs, and I am eager to be a part of such an esteemed community. The School of Veterinary Medicine specifically caught my attention because of its dedication to advancing animal health and welfare through scientific research. I have always been passionate about animals and their well-being, and I strongly believe that the work being done at the School of Veterinary Medicine aligns perfectly with my values and goals.
I have a strong background in animal research and laboratory techniques, which I have acquired through my previous experiences. During my time as a PhD student, I have had the opportunity to work with a diverse range of animals, including rabbits, rats, and mice. I have not only provided care and fed these animals, but I have also conducted health checks and monitored their well-being. I have also worked in the animal production center, overseeing their mating, monitoring birth, and providing care for offspring. These experiences have given me a deep understanding and appreciation for the importance of ethical and humane treatment of animals in research.
One of my greatest accomplishments during my PhD program has been successfully completing a project on maternal immune activation while modeling autism spectrum disorder and multiple sclerosis disease. This project required a high level of precision and attention to detail, and I am proud of the results that I have achieved. Additionally, I have gained extensive experience in conducting behavioral experiments related to ongoing projects on MI, Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, autism spectrum disorder, and schizophrenia. I have utilized various tests such as open field, Morris Water maze, Ratorot test, maze tests, passive avoidance test, locomotor activity test, grip strength measurement test, hot-cold plate test, odor discrimination test, social recognition test, pre-stimulus-mediated inhibition test, pole test, grid test, and shuttle box test. I am also proficient in analyzing behavioral test data using SPSS and MATLAB.
Furthermore, I have a strong background in molecular and histological studies. I have isolated stem cells from the femur bone of healthy experimental animals and obtained a primary hematopoietic cell line in cell culture. I have also attempted to establish a primary neuron culture using cells from the olfactory bulb. I am well-versed in various techniques such as protein isolation, Western Blot, PCR, rt-qPCR, toxicity testing, IHC, Northern Blot, and ELISA. I am also familiar with electrophysiology, imaging, protein purification, and optical and electron microscopy techniques.
In addition to my technical skills, I possess strong organizational and task prioritization abilities. I am able to work independently and efficiently, and I have a keen eye for detail. I believe that these skills will be invaluable in managing and executing complex research projects. I am also a strong communicator and possess excellent administrative and clerical skills. I am fluent in English, Spanish, French, and Catalan, and I am proficient in using various software programs, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
One of the things that I particularly admire about this position is the opportunity to work on projects that have a real impact on animal health and welfare. I am passionate about using my skills and knowledge to contribute to the advancement of animal research and care. I am also excited about the chance to work with a diverse team of researchers and academics, who I believe will push me to grow and excel in my field.
I am confident that my skills, experience, and passion make me an ideal candidate for this position. I am eager to learn and adapt to new techniques and technologies, and I am confident that I will be able to make valuable contributions to the research projects at the School of Veterinary Medicine. I am also impressed by the University College Dublin's commitment to providing a supportive and inclusive environment for its students and staff, and I am eager to be a part of this community.
Thank you for considering my application. I am looking forward to the opportunity to discuss my qualifications further and demonstrate my enthusiasm for this position in person.
Sincerely,
Melike Cansel EREN
