My name is Brianna McCarthy and I am extremely passionate about advocating for Indigenous students and ensuring their success in higher education. It has been a personal goal of mine to use my education and skills to make a positive impact in this community. With my Bachelor's degree in Indigenous Studies and a Master's degree in Education, I have gained a strong understanding of the challenges faced by Indigenous students in higher education. I have also developed a keen interest in creating programs and initiatives that promote cultural awareness and support the academic and personal growth of Indigenous students. What excites me the most about this particular position at The University of Newcastle is the opportunity to work directly with Indigenous students and build meaningful relationships with them. I am confident that my strong communication skills and empathetic nature will enable me to connect with students and understand their unique needs. I am also well-versed in creating and delivering workshops, seminars, and events that promote cultural understanding and encourage academic success. With my knowledge and experience, I am confident that I can contribute towards the success of Indigenous students at The University of Newcastle. In addition to my academic qualifications, I have also gained practical experience through internships and volunteer work. During my internship at a local Indigenous organization, I assisted with the development of a mentorship program for Indigenous students in high school. This experience allowed me to work closely with students and their families, providing guidance and support towards their academic and personal goals. I am also a volunteer at a local community center, where I facilitate workshops on Indigenous culture and history for both Indigenous and non-Indigenous individuals. These experiences have strengthened my skills in program development, event planning, and community outreach. Furthermore, I am an active member of various Indigenous organizations and have a strong network within the community. I believe that collaboration and building partnerships are essential for creating a supportive and inclusive environment for Indigenous students. I am excited about the opportunity to work with the Indigenous Student Association at The University of Newcastle and other relevant organizations to promote the advancement of Indigenous students.
