Dear Public Diplomacy Section Team,
I am writing to express my enthusiasm for the opportunity to contribute a poem for Independence Day, celebrating the essence of American values through my unique perspective as a Syrian married to an American. My name is Mehmet Güneş, and I am a poet recognized by the British Council, with a passion for promoting cultural exchange and understanding.
Having received accolades such as the travel grant from the British Council’s Arts Development Grants and a scholarship under the Cultural Exchange agreement for Jordan and Morocco, I know firsthand the transformative power of the arts. My work has been featured in esteemed publications, including The World’s Poetry Archive and the Poetry Rivals Collection, reaching an audience of over one million in North America.
This position excites me as it aligns perfectly with my commitment to fostering dialogue through poetry. I believe that the beauty of language can bridge cultural divides and build lasting connections. My skills in crafting evocative, meaningful poetry can help convey the shared values of freedom and resilience that resonate on Independence Day.
I look forward to the opportunity to contribute my voice to this important celebration, weaving together the narratives of both my Syrian heritage and my American experience.
Thank you for considering my application.
Warm regards,
Mehmet Güneş
