Dear Tulane University Libraries Hiring Manager,
I am writing to express my interest in the Special Collections Student Assistant position at Tulane University Libraries. As a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual with a passion for history and archival material, I am confident that my skills and experience make me a perfect fit for this role.
Firstly, let me introduce myself. My name is Califia Bellot and I am a final year student at Tulane University, majoring in History with a minor in Library Science. I have always been fascinated by the preservation of historical documents and the stories they tell. My coursework in History has given me a strong understanding of the importance of archival material and the role it plays in shaping our understanding of the past. Additionally, my minor in Library Science has equipped me with the necessary skills to effectively organize and maintain collections.
I was thrilled to come across the job listing for the Special Collections Student Assistant position at Tulane University Libraries. The opportunity to work with rare and unique material in a special collections library is something that aligns perfectly with my interests and career goals. The description of the role and its responsibilities immediately caught my attention and I am eager to contribute my skills and passion to the team.
What I find particularly appealing about this position is the chance to work closely with special collections under the guidance of experienced professionals. I am excited at the prospect of physically reorganizing materials into archival-quality containers, creating and maintaining an accurate inventory of a collection, and entering data into the online database. These tasks not only require attention to detail, but also problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently. I am confident that my experience in data entry and my meticulous nature will enable me to excel in these tasks.
Additionally, I am highly responsive to feedback and always strive to improve and learn from my mistakes. I believe this quality will be valuable in this role as I will be working closely with a team of supervisors who will provide guidance and mentorship. Furthermore, my excellent communication skills and ability to maintain consistent communication with my supervisors will ensure that I am able to effectively execute tasks and work collaboratively with the team.
While I do not have prior experience working in a library or with archival collections, I am eager to learn and I am confident that my skills and enthusiasm make me a strong candidate for this position. I am willing to contribute 10-15 hours per week and am available to work between 9:00AM to 5:00PM, Monday through Thursday for the academic year. I am also open to discussing partial remote work options.
I have attached my resume and a cover letter detailing my availability, interests, and relevant skills. I believe my experience and qualifications make me a strong candidate for this position and I am excited at the opportunity to further discuss my application with you.
Thank you for considering my application. I look forward to the opportunity to contribute my skills and passion to the Special Collections Student Assistant team at Tulane University Libraries.
Sincerely,
