About the job Key Responsibilities: Accurately prepare and dispense chemotherapy drugs
ensuring proper dosages and formulations. Adhere to stringent safety protocols for handling cytotoxic medications to protect staff and patients. Collaborate with oncologists to review and verify chemotherapy protocols
ensuring the accuracy of drug selection
dosage
and administration schedules. Cross-check patient-specific factors like weight
height
and lab results before approving treatments. Educate patients and caregivers about chemotherapy medications
potential side effects
and how to manage them. Guide supportive care medications
such as antiemetics
pain relievers
and immune boosters. Monitor patients for adverse drug reactions
drug-drug interactions
and toxicities. Adjust dosages or recommend alternative therapies based on patient responses and lab results. Maintain an inventory of oncology medications
including specialized and high-cost drugs. Ensure proper storage conditions and monitor for expired or near-expiry drugs. Work closely with oncologists
nurses
and other healthcare professionals to develop and optimize patient treatment plans. Participate in tumor board meetings to provide pharmacological insights. Train and guide medical staff on safely handling
preparing
and administering oncology medications. Educate staff and patients about the importance of adherence to treatment protocols. Maintain comprehensive records of chemotherapy preparation and administration. Educational Requirements: Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm) Licensure: Active and unrestricted license to practice pharmacy. Meet continuing education requirements as stipulated by the licensing authority. Experience: Prior experience working in an oncology pharmacy or a related specialty is preferred. Hands-on experience with chemotherapy preparation
