In the last 4 1/2 years, I have stepped outside my comfort zone and accepted a supervisory social worker role overseeing the Madison VA's Rockford Homeless Programs Office. This role has been both challenging and rewarding, as I have had to dive headfirst into the direct care of the homeless population and provide them with wrap-around services. Additionally, I have had the opportunity to advocate and support my staff members who are in the trenches daily, serving those who are most in need. This has taught me the true meaning of teamwork and the importance of working together towards a common goal. One of the most significant achievements in my current role has been successfully converting a number of tenant-based vouchers to project-based vouchers. This has ensured timely and readily available units for our homeless and aging population. I have also been at the forefront of creating and nurturing ongoing coalitions and partnerships with dozens of community agencies, always with shared goals driving our everyday projects and tasks. These collaborations have not only strengthened our programs but have also allowed us to make a more significant impact on the lives of those we serve. In addition to my professional experience, I also have the opportunity to volunteer at annual events that serve our homeless population, such as our Top of Illinois Stand Down and the annual PIT count with multiple COCs in their respective catchment areas. These experiences have given me a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by the homeless population and the importance of providing them with a safe and supportive environment to help them get back on their feet. My skillset includes strong leadership abilities, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and a passion for serving the community. I am a natural problem-solver and have the ability to think critically and make sound decisions even in high-pressure situations. My clinical background has equipped me with the skills to empathize, listen, and provide support to individuals from diverse backgrounds. I am also adept at building and maintaining relationships, which I believe is crucial for the success of any organization.
