By Sa'ad Ado Koki

Dear UNICEF Recruitment Team, I am writing to express my interest in the Social & Behavior Change Specialist, Polio, P3, Temporary Appointment role with UNICEF in Abuja, Nigeria. My name is Sa'ad Ado Koki and I am a highly qualified and experienced professional with a strong background in Public Health and Social & Behavior Change Communication. With my skills and expertise, I am confident that I can make a significant contribution to UNICEF's mission of promoting the rights of every child, everywhere. What I admire most about UNICEF is its strong commitment to equity and ensuring that all children have an equal opportunity to survive, develop, and reach their full potential. As someone who shares this value, I am excited about the opportunity to work with an organization that prioritizes the well-being of children and their families. Having completed my B.Pharm and Doctor of Pharmacy, I have a solid foundation in the health sector. However, it was during my MBA program that I gained a deeper understanding of the importance of equity and its impact on a society's development. I strongly believe that investing in the health, education, and protection of the most disadvantaged and excluded children is crucial for the sustainable growth and stability of a country. My experience in social and behavior change communication, in both routine immunization and polio eradication, has given me a thorough understanding of the challenges and opportunities in this field. I have worked as a Polio SBC Manager, where I was responsible for developing and implementing SBC strategies and activities, assessing qualitative and quantitative data, and collaborating with various stakeholders. I have also led the design and development of SBC interventions, including support for voluntary community mobilizers and the production of educational materials. In my previous role, I also worked closely with the National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) and was deployed to polio outbreak states as a member of the Management Support Team (MST). This experience has equipped me with the necessary skills to support the development and implementation of SBC strategies during an outbreak, as well as crisis communication and misinformation management. I am also skilled in advocacy, networking, and partnership building. I have successfully collaborated with internal and external partners to design and implement SBC strategies, and I have experience in mobilizing resources and writing proposals to ensure the full funding of SBC and polio response efforts. What I find most appealing about this particular position is the opportunity to work with the National Emergency Operation Centre and be deployed to polio outbreak states. This will provide me with a unique opportunity to contribute to UNICEF's efforts in eradicating polio in Nigeria. I am also excited about the prospect of working with a multi-disciplinary team and leveraging my skills and knowledge to support other health interventions. In terms of competencies, I possess the necessary skills to excel in this role. I am a strategic thinker who is driven to achieve results for impact. I am also adaptable and able to manage ambiguity and complexity while working collaboratively with others. Additionally, I have a strong commitment to building and maintaining partnerships and a high level of self-awareness and ethical awareness. I am currently based in Abuja and would prefer to work in this location. However, I am open to other locations within Nigeria for this role. I am also available for temporary appointments. In conclusion, I am confident that my skills, experience, and passion for promoting children's rights align with UNICEF's values and mission. I am eager to contribute my expertise to UNICEF's efforts in ensuring that every child has an equal opportunity to thrive. I look forward to the opportunity to discuss my qualifications further. Thank you for considering my application. Sincerely, Sa'ad Ado Koki
