I am an unpaid secondary carer living at home and have been caring daily since I was 15. I have been through a family history of trauma and have had to use my resources independently to come out on the other side
and find support to recover and gain my Autism diagnosis. On top of this
I have made use of accessing my local community centre for advice
and as a platform to be more socially active. I live with my stepbrother who has a global delay. I am responsible for his needs which include microwave cooking meals
washing clothes in the washing machine
administration for bills
all online use and purchases. He needs extra support
so I have to be consistent by having empathy through daily conversations whilst being proactively positive and aware of his safety and wellbeing
and being aware of his vulnerability because of his low immune system. I do not have any employment history of care work
but the day-to-day experience is consistent.
