Dear Hiring Manager,
I am writing to express my interest in the Project Development Manager position at the Agency for Technical Cooperation and Development (ACTED). With over 18 years of experience in disaster and emergency management, organizational development, and project management, I am confident that I possess the skills and expertise necessary to excel in this role.
What drew me to ACTED, specifically to the role of Project Development Manager, is the organization’s commitment to providing high-quality humanitarian services to vulnerable populations. As a seasoned humanitarian professional, I share the same values and mission of contributing to the assistance of vulnerable people through a movement-coordinated approach.
Having worked in the Horn of Africa, I have extensive experience in responding to complex and natural disasters, including the Sudan conflict population movement emergency. In this role, I led and supported the operation’s implementation and coordination as a Field Operations Coordinator at the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC). My core competencies include movement coordination, relief, shelter, WASH, health and care, PSS, cash transfer programming, and OD in emergencies. I have also provided strategic leadership in regional development, governance capacity, and youth and volunteer development as a Regional Manager at the Kenya Red Cross.
One of the key aspects that I appreciate about this particular position at ACTED is the opportunity to work in South Sudan. Having previously worked in the country, I am well aware of the humanitarian needs and challenges faced by the population. I am passionate about crisis management, migration and displacement, and anticipatory action, and I am eager to apply my skills and expertise in challenging and dynamic environments.
In my previous roles, I have successfully led and managed projects in South Sudan, improving food security, ensuring access to livelihoods, and developing resilience and emergency programs. I have also worked as a camp manager, providing camp management services in Protection of Civilian (POC) sites in Juba and Bor, informal settlements in Wau, and refugee camps in Maban. My experience in South Sudan has equipped me with a deep understanding of the context and the ability to navigate challenging situations.
As the Project Development Manager, I understand that my primary responsibility will be to lead the development of project proposals in line with ACTED’s global and in-country program strategy, and ensure proper grant management. I am confident that my skills in positioning and fundraising, context analysis, strategy development, external relations, and contract management will enable me to excel in this role. Additionally, my experience in contract follow-up, reporting, and partner follow-up will contribute to the smooth implementation of projects and successful grant management.
Furthermore, I have a Master’s degree in a relevant field such as International Relations, Development, or Political Science, which has provided me with a strong foundation in the humanitarian field. I have a deep understanding of the humanitarian aid system and the ability to understand donor systems, which I believe is crucial for effective fundraising and proposal development. My strong external representation skills have also enabled me to build and maintain relationships with donors, partners, and other key stakeholders.
In my previous roles, I have also demonstrated my ability to coordinate and manage a team, foster a culture of teamwork and team building, and provide capacity building to team members. I am also comfortable working independently and creatively in a multicultural context, and I thrive under pressure. My strong oral and written communication skills, coupled with my analytical skills, have enabled me to effectively communicate complex information and contribute to data-driven decision-making processes.
In addition to my skills and qualifications, I am also drawn to ACTED’s commitment to staff development and well-being. I believe that a motivated and well-supported team is essential for the successful implementation of projects and the achievement of organizational goals.
Thank you for considering my application for the Project Development Manager position at ACTED. I am confident that my skills, experience, and passion make me a strong candidate for this role. I would welcome the opportunity to discuss my qualifications further and share my ideas for advancing ACTED’s mission in South Sudan.
Sincerely,
