- The Navigation team at Mapbox develops and operates web services powering strategic navigation initiatives in consumer, automotive, and logistics verticals. They work on distributed systems on AWS, geospatial localization, traffic telemetry, and mapping. The team aims to revolutionize in-car experiences with fast maps and navigation, collaborating with automotive partners like BMW, Toyota, and GM.
- As a Machine Learning Engineer III on the Routing Cost team, you will lead the design, development, and delivery of highly trafficked recommendation systems for routing cost engine. Your responsibilities include leading engineering teams, designing ML and data pipelines, building tools for quality assurance, leveraging geospatial algorithms, partnering with data scientists, mentoring colleagues, and participating in on-call rotations to ensure system availability 24/7.
- You should have 8-10+ years of backend and ML experience, extensive knowledge of Python, distributed processing pipelines (Hadoop, Spark, Airflow, Dask), large datasets, cloud infrastructure, and operational excellence. Strong communication, ownership, customer focus, growth mindset, mentorship, and data-informed decision-making are essential. Requirements
- 8-10+ years of backend and ML experience
- Extensive experience with Python, distributed processing pipelines (Hadoop, Spark, Airflow, Dask), and large datasets
- Experience with cloud and infrastructure services, including deploying and managing infrastructure in cloud environments
- Strong understanding of data quality control, statistical analysis, and storage optimization
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Mentorship and leadership experience in engineering teams
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a growth mindset
- Ability to participate in on-call rotations and respond outside normal hours
