  • The role focuses on driving machine learning and AI in payments and risk, building a risk platform to safeguard users’ activities and funds.
  • Responsibilities include building and deploying models to assess risks, conducting research, developing scalable frameworks, and identifying new data opportunities.
  • The candidate will work with engineering, product, design, and compliance teams, and will use ML and AI to create secure, reliable platforms.
  • The role requires collaboration, communication, and technical leadership to improve Gusto’s products and risk management strategies.

Requirements
  • 8+ years of experience conducting statistical analyses on large datasets
  • Deep domain knowledge in machine learning and artificial intelligence, including familiarity with Large Language Models (LLMs)
  • MS or PhD in a quantitative field with at least 5 years experience in a business environment, or BS/Data Science Bootcamp graduate with at least 8 years of relevant experience
  • Proven experience in credit risk modeling or fraud risk modeling using logistic regression, random forest, Xgboost, or neural networks
  • Strong understanding of AI-based approaches and LLM applications
  • Experience applying statistical and modeling techniques using Python, R, or similar languages
  • Strong programming skills across all phases of data science development
  • Excellent communication skills for non-technical stakeholders
  • PhD or Master’s plus relevant experience is a plus
  • Experience in the Fintech industry is a plus
