The Space Systems Engineer at Planet Labs is responsible for supporting daily satellite operations, analyzing data, troubleshooting anomalies, running on-orbit experiments, and deploying software both on the ground and in orbit.
The role involves developing real-time software solutions, writing scripts for data aggregation, and creating operational procedures to improve fleet capacity and efficiency.
The engineer will work closely with hardware and software teams to debug issues, enhance services, and shape operational strategies for next-generation satellites.
This is a hybrid position requiring three days per week in the San Francisco office, with a focus on automation, data analysis, and operational support for Planet's Earth Observation satellite constellation.

Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, or equivalent
2+ years of relevant work experience
Experience in software development, particularly in Python or similar languages
Familiarity with the space environment and its challenges
Data-driven mindset with experience in statistical analysis
Proactive approach to engineering and problem-solving
Effective interpersonal and collaboration skills within a technical team
